How many packs of hair extensions do you need? Every head is different, and your stylist has the final say. These are the amounts we see work most often, grouped by what you want to achieve, plus what is in each pack so the numbers make sense.

How much hair do I need

Adding fullness, not length

About 40 to 60 grams of hair. That is 2 to 3 packs of Individuals or Invisible Tape, or one Genius Weft.

Adding length

Adding length means doubling the density of your natural hair so the ends blend. Most clients use 4 to 8 packs of Individuals, 4 to 6 packs of Invisible Tape, or 2 to 3 Genius Wefts, depending on how thick your hair is to start.

A full transformation

Going from a bob to long, or a big change in both length and volume, usually takes 8 to 12 packs of Individuals, 6 to 8 packs of Invisible Tape, or 3 to 4 Genius Wefts.

These are planning numbers for a standard length and a full head, not a prescription. Shorter cuts and partial placements need less, and your stylist decides the final amount after seeing your hair. When in doubt, order one pack more than you think and keep it sealed: unopened hair can be exchanged within 14 days.

What is in a pack

Method Lengths Per pack Weight
Individuals Straight 18", 22" 20 strands 18 g at 18" (0.9 g a strand), 20 g at 22" (1 g a strand)
Individuals Wavy 18", 22" 20 strands 18 g at 18", 20 g at 22"
Invisible Tape Hair 18", 22" 12 pieces 25 g at 18", 27 g at 22"
Genius Weft Straight 20", 24" 1 piece, 90 cm wide 50 g at 20", 70 g at 24"
Genius Weft Wavy 24" 3 pieces, 30 cm wide each 60 g total
Clip In Hair 18" 7 pieces plus a tester piece 90 g total

Grams are the honest way to compare methods. "40 to 60 grams for fullness" is two to three packs of Individuals or Tape, or a single Genius Weft, which is where the ranges above come from. A Genius Weft can be cut at any point without unraveling, so one piece can be split across rows.

Which method is right for me

Lengths

18" sits around the bra line on most clients. 22" reaches mid back. 24" Genius Weft is our longest piece. Measure from around mid-ear, not from the top of the head or the nape.

Choosing a shade

  • Match to the ends of your hair, not the roots. Rooted shades take care of regrowth.
  • Unsure between two shades? Order the Color Book before a first order, or use Color Match to see real client matches.
  • Shades ending in F, like 15F, 20F, 22F, 35F, and 45F, are fine blends of the same color family with a softer blend between highs and lows.
  • Not every shade comes in every method or length. The product page shows what is available.

Caring for your extensions

  • The full routine is in How to care for your extensions, the LINEONE way.
  • Sulfate free, extension safe products only. The LINEONE care line is made for this.
  • Brush from the ends up while holding the roots. Sleep in a loose braid.
  • Swimming and workouts are fine with care. Loosely braid your hair, wet it with water before getting in a chlorinated pool, wash and dry soon after, and keep it away from chlorine and chemical sunscreen.
  • Wavy hair: squeeze water out with a towel instead of rubbing, scrunch in Weightless Detangler as a leave in, then air dry or diffuse on low. Brush your hair before hopping in the shower to wash, to prevent excess tension on the scalp.
